MUSIC NOTES Never having written an article in this publication, I’d like to begin by thanking you for the opportunity to serve in the interim position. I have chosen to treat this as an "Intentional" interim by inten-tionally seeking to make a transition eas-ier for our coming Minister of Music. I thought it might be good to articulate a few things I’ve been striving to do. 1. Catching up… when I began leading services in January I researched the top 25 songs that are being sung in churches throughout the United States and made a plan to sing all those songs during the 13 weeks that I’ll be leading. I don’t like to label songs, some are in our hymn book, some are not, but we are singing and worshipping with the songs that the vast majority of churches in our na-tion are singing. I believe this will help us greatly when a new music leader enters our midst. 2. Building up...speaking from experi-ence, one of the most discouraging things a prospective music leader could face is a choir rehearsal with 11 people! I’m not disparaging the 11 people by any means, I’m just saying that a joyful, joy-filled choir is a drawing card for any church staff member. Our church family has re-sponded and the choir is growing rapidly and I thank you so very much. That group effort will pay immeasur-able dividends! (And we still have room for you!) 3. Opening up...it is the goal of any wor-ship leader to allow people to use their love, their gifts for the Lord. By expanding our vision of worship, we have people in the choir that have never sung in the choir and can’t read a lick of music...and they’re loving it! (continued) Music notes: continued: We have instrumentalists that have been longing to play and contribute their talents to the Lord that are play-ing on a regular basis. We have folks that are gifted in acting and drama that are boldly attempting thought-provoking skits in our services that are related to the theme of the ser-vice. I consider this to be the tip of the iceberg, just the first of many waves of talent that our church can use to be more effective in our cause...which is to tell others the good news of Jesus Christ. My name is Samuel Pucik and this summer I am the youth interim here at West Baptist Church Batesville.
I grew up in Mississippi, Louisiana (GEAUX TIGERS!), Tennessee, and Arkansas and though most of my family now lives in Conway, AR, my hometown is practically where I go to school.
I will be a junior at Williams Baptist College this fall where I am currently majoring in Biblical Linguistics with a minor in Music. I am called to the ministry and I plan on using all of my abilities
(speaking, leading worship, and writing) for God’s glory and His kingdom- whatever that entails! Over the past few years God has led me to lead worship through music at various events and
camps around Arkansas, and while He has, He’s taught me that every person has different needs that need to be met. Though I cannot meet all of their needs, I can introduce them to the One who can.
I need Jesus Christ. You need Jesus Christ. Every person needs Jesus Christ. Without Christ, I have no life. He is the reason I am alive today and He is the reason that I am here in Batesville.
My personal purpose is to worship, love, and glorify God through the life He has given me and the talents He has blessed me with, and to lead everyone I know to do the same.
Here at West Baptist Church Batesville, my God-given purpose is to serve: this community, more specifically this church, and even more specifically this youth ministry.
28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the most important of
all?" 29 Jesus answered, "The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these." 32 And
the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. 33 And to love him with all the heart and with all the
understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." 34 And when Jesus saw that he
answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." – Mark 12:28-34
