God is pleased that you are seeking assurance. You see, God wants you to be sure of your salvation. He wants you to be saved and know it. Here are the most common causes for lack of assurance.
- "I'm not sure that I've ever really given my life to Christ."
2 Cor. 13:5
Examine yourself. Ask yourself these questions:
- Was my decision my own, or did I make it to please somebody else?
- Was I aware, at the time, that I was a sinner?
- Did I understand that He died to pay the penalty for my sins?
If you can answer "yes" to the above, then take God at His word and thank Him for your salvation. If you cannot answer "yes," then go to the section on "Salvation".
- "I cannot really know that I'm saved until I stand before God in heaven."
I John 5:13
The Bible was written so that you can know right now if you are a Christian. Dedicate yourself to study God's Word and pray and God will show you if you are saved.
- "I was saved once, but I think I have lost my salvation."
John 10:27-29
If you have truly accepted Christ as your Savior and Lord, you are saved forever and there is no possible way for you to lose it.
- "I don't feel close to God like I used to."
You may have allowed sinful acts, habits or thoughts to break your fellowship with God. I John 1:9
You may be resisting God's will for your life. Prov. 3:5-6
You may be failing to spend time regularly with God in prayer and Bible study. Joshua 1:9
